Elsie Marie Newell, 87, of Greeley, CO and formerly of McPherson, KS, passed away on Monday, February 25, 2013, at her home in Greeley, CO. She was a retired school teacher and librarian.

She was born on May 27, 1925, in Hartman, Colorado, the daughter of Frank Browning and Eva (Erwin) Hittle. She graduated from Hartman High School in Hartman, CO and Sterling College in Sterling, KS. She was united in marriage to William O. "Bill" Newell on June 3, 1947, in Dodge City, KS.

Elsie was a member of the McPherson Free Methodist Church and attended the Greeley Wesleyan Church.

Survivors include: her husband, Bill of the home; daughters, Joan Kugler and husband, Mendal, of Greeley, CO, Nancy Malone and husband, Jerry, of Greenville, SC, and Pat Collins and husband, Paul, of Mill Creek, WA; brother, Carl Hittle of Ft. Collins, CO; and sister, Hazel Hopkins of Loveland, CO; 11 grandchildren, Crystal Kugler Lopez, Brian Kugler, Michael Malone, Rodney Malone, Marc Kugler, Seth Newell, David Collins, Andrew Collins, Megan Newell Postelwait, Brett Malone, and Phillip Collins; and 17 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, son, Brad Newell, and brothers, Harold Hittle and Evart Hittle.

The funeral service will be at 10:00 AM, Saturday, March 2, 2013, at the McPherson Free Methodist Church with Rev. Tom Griffith and Pastor Mike Hambley officiating. Burial will be in the McPherson Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 6:00 PM, Friday, at Stockham Family Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 4:00 to 6:00 PM.
